Good Samaritans Honored By Palo Alto Council For Saving Girl

PALO ALTO, CA — Two good Samaritans who stepped in during a stabbing in downtown Palo Alto on Aug. 18 were honored by the Palo Alto City Council during a meeting Monday. Orlando Kent and Benjamin Bellamy received proclamations from Mayor Tom DuBois for their "selfless, heroic acts … to protect & save the life of a stranger." A 16-year-old girl was stabbed near University Avenue and Emerson Street, blocks from Stanford University. Kent and Bellamy tackled, disarmed and pinned the suspect, a 39-year-old woman, to the ground while other witnesses assisted the victim until police arrived, according to a police news release at the time. He tackled the suspect off the victim, wrestled the knife away and pinned the suspect to the ground with Bellamy's help. Bellamy was walking his dog in the area at the time, according to the proclamation. The girl is "on the path to a full recovery," according to the proclamation.
