PITTSBURGH, PA - After pandemic-related delays, Sandcastle will debut the Bombs Away slide in 2022, the West Homestead water park announced Monday. First planned to open in 2020, Bombs Away is a 305-foot-long free falling attraction. Sliders will step into an enclosed capsule whose floor will abruptly vanish and drop them trough a closed-tube fly-by down six stores at speeds as high as 26 feet per second. Bombs Away will be located adjacent to the Lightning Express speed slide. Spectators will be able to see riders taking the plunge through the ride's translucent orange, blue and white layout. "This drop is over the top, and riders will love looping around and around to the splash down," said Mark Pauls, general manager of Sandcastle and Kennywood, the West Mifflin amusement park. Sandcastle and Kennywood are are expanding operating hours and will bring back events such as Kennywood's Bites and Pints Food & Drink Festival and Sandcastle's Jammin' July weekends.
