City of Oak Forest 9-11 Memorial On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost at the World Trade Center in New York City, at the Pentagon Office Building in Washington, DC and on Flight 93 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania as a consequence of acts of terrorism.
The steel beam (WTC Artifact C-95) is a piece of the World Trade Center. It was donated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to the City of Oak Forest. The beam sits within a pentagon-shaped planter. It is surrounded by five lighted bollards, one honoring the lives that were lost and the others honoring the dedicated First Responders -- Firefighters, Police Officers, Public Works and Emergency Management personnel -- who put their lives on the line on September 11th and continue to do so each day across America to help keep our country safe.
The 9-11 Memorial was dedicated on September 11, 2014.
