CONCORD, NH — President Joe Biden was in New Hampshire touting the newly signed $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act on Tuesday and the $2 billion to be spent from the bill in the Granite State during the next three years. The president gave a short speech in Woodstock at the Pemigewasset River Bridge, a bridge previously placed on a red-list for repairs. The entire federal delegation was on hand for the event — U.S. Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) as well as U.S. Reps. Ann McLane Kuster (D-NH) and Chris Pappas (D-NH), who all voted for the proposals. The delegation flew with Biden on Air Force One from Washington, D.C., according to Shaheen. Shaheen said the president chose the state as his first stop because it was "a big win for Granite Staters." She said the investments were good for working families which was why she helped lead negotiations, "to make sure it responds to the pressing infrastructure needs of small and rural states like New Hampshire." Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) greeted the president at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport to welcome him back to the state. The governor said the two spoke briefly about investing infrastructure dollars wisely as well inflation and workforce shortages. Sununu called the conversation "very pleasant." During the event, the delegation announced the city of Manchester would receive a $25 million Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity grant from the U.S. Dept. of Transportation to revitalize the South Millyard area of the city. One of Hassan's guests was Nicholas Coates, the town administrator of Bristol, who has been working to bring high-speed Internet and business investment to the community. Action Requested On Robocalls From Legit Numbers We have all received them — endless robocalls and sales pitches for extended warranties and other things coming from real numbers in the 603 area code. Well now, officials are starting to do something about it. New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella along with 50 other state attorneys general as well as the AG from the District of Columbia have written a letter to the FCC calling for action against the robocallers who are often scamming people. Phone companies were required this year to implement a new caller ID authentication technology to take on scammers and spoofers. Since that time, calls have dropped by about 30 percent. But scammers, as they always do, have found a way around the system — by purchasing real numbers. "Illegal robocalls represent one of the most significant and persistent threats to New Hampshire consumers," Formella said. "The state attorneys general have made significant strides towards eliminating illegal robocalls in recent years. We urge the FCC to take steps to close an avenue by which scammers can evade caller protections." Airline Adds More Nonstop Flights Spirit Airlines has added two more nonstop flights to Florida airports from the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, according to the company. Four more flights per week will be heading to Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers while the airline will be adding three more flights per week to Tampa International Airport. "It's exciting to see Spirit expanding to two more Florida destinations from MHT," Airport Director Ted Kitchens said. "These flights also come just before the busy holiday travel season after a year when many people were unable to visit their loved ones." In April 2022, Spirit will begin flying from Manchester to Myrtle Beach, Florida. Here is everything else going on in New Hampshire right now.
