ANTIOCH, CA — More than a dozen children at a Sutter Health pediatric vaccine clinic in Antioch received a higher dose than expected of the COVID-19 vaccine last weekend, Sutter officials confirmed Tuesday. According to Dr. Jimmy Hu, a pediatrician and chair of Sutter Health's COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force, 14 patients received the pediatric vaccine with an incorrect amount of a diluting substance. As a result, the children received more than the dose as specified for those ages 5-11. The amount they received was about two-thirds of what people 12 and up receive. Sutter officials say Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance indicates that people who receive the vaccine with a wrong dose may have more arm soreness, headache, fever or fatigue.
