LEMONT, IL — Beginning in January, Lemont High School will offer SAT 1600, a test preparation program designed to familiarize students with the SAT, according to a release from the school. Registration has already begun for SAT 1600, which is open to all Lemont High School juniors, as well as juniors from other area schools. Students may choose between two eight-week programs, each of which consists of two-hour weekly sessions that run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Lemont High School. The first session begins on Jan. 25, and will meet each Tuesday through March 15. The second session will meet on Wednesdays from Jan. 26 through March 16. Students in both sessions will take a Practice SAT during the week of March 7; that week's session will run from 5:30-9 p.m. The course costs $325 for the eight sessions, which includes the textbook and practice SAT, the school said. The deadline to register for one of the school's two SAT 1600 programs is Dec. 31, or when all sections are filled. Students must register and pay online. The goal of SAT 1600 is to give students the confidence, strategies and content necessary to score their personal best on the SAT, the school said. The course does this by familiarizing students with the elements of the SAT, from content and timing to pacing and strategies; and allows students to take a practice exam. The Illinois State Board of Education mandates that all school districts participate in an annual statewide assessment. Lemont High School's Class of 2023 will take the SAT on April 13.
