JOLIET, IL —Criminal charges are pending against William Jenkins, 38, who remains hospitalized after being shot by Joliet police on Tuesday afternoon. Jenkins used his vehicle to pin one Joliet officer between two vehicles outside the Center Street Wendy's restaurant just after 3:30 p.m., the Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force announced Tuesday night. Joliet police tried to stop Jenkins in the parking lot of the Wendy's Restaurant at 104 North Center Street, and Jenkins put his vehicle in reverse and struck one Joliet officer, pinning the officer between his vehicle and a police vehicle, the task force announced. Jenkins has ties to the Joliet area and Dolton, authorities said. At the Wendy's, Jenkins tried to run over the assisting Joliet police officers as they arrived and two Joliet officers fired their guns at Jenkins, shooting him, police announced. The officer hit by the vehicle and Jenkins were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The injured Joliet officer is in stable condition, the task force indicated.
