Female Inmate, 27, Dies While In Custody At Wilsonville Prison

WILSONVILLE, OR —A female inmate at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville died Monday at local hospital, according to the Oregon Department of Corrections. The department of corrections identified the prisoner as Sarah Maebell Rodgers, 27, of Corvallis. The Oregon State Medical Examiner has yet to determine the cause of Rodgers' death, officials said. Oregon live reported that the death is unlikely to be COVID-19 because officials do not release the names of people in prison who die of the virus. According to the Corvallis Gazette-Times, Rodgers was serving 25 months following a 2020 conviction for assaulting a public safety officer and harassment. That incident happened while Rodgers was lodged in the Benton County Jail in Corvallis. Rodgers was transferred to Coffee Creek in April after pleading guilty to those charges, according to the Corvallis Gazette-Times. The Gazette-Times also reported that Rodgers had previously been convicted following a Feb. 2018 incident in which she broke into the Benton County Public Health building brandishing a knife and threatening to kill a woman who worked at the facility.
