Description

PORTLAND, OR —Providence Park will be the site of a pop-up COVID-19 vaccine clinic for children ages 5 to 11 on Thursday. The event, which was announced Monday, is sponsored by Providence Health & Services, the Portland Timbers and Thorns FC. The clinic will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and offer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, while supplies last. No registration is required. Organizers said attendees should enter the stadium through Gate F on 20th Avenue and Morrison St. "The COVID-19 vaccine is free, safe and over 90-percent effective at preventing the virus in younger children," organizers of the event said in a statement. "In addition, the vaccine protects kids from some of the most damaging long-term consequences of the virus." Timber Joey — the Timbers' lumberjack-dressed human mascot, who saws off a piece of log to celebrate each goal—will be on hand to welcome kids and families between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Organizers of the clinic remind parents and guardians that children between the ages of 5 and 11 will receive an age-appropriate dose of the vaccine, which is one-third of the adult dose, while containing the same active ingredients. Smaller needles, designed especially for children, will be used at the clinic. In partnership with Providence Health & Services, PTFC will host a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for children ages 5 to 11 at Providence Park on Thursday, Nov. 18.
