The Jubilee Children Ministries in Elmhurst recently gave back to children fighting cancer by donating new toys and American Girl Dolls to benefit the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. Jubilee Children Ministries' mission is to obtain donations and supplies for organizations that serve, protect, and better the lives of children. Esther Anderson Founder of the Jubilee Children Ministries described the rationale behind the partnership between the two organizations. "I want to help children who are suffering. I learned a lot about the Treasure Chest Foundation and its mission. Thank you for caring about the other children with cancer and helping the children through the painful process of treatment." Treasure Chest Foundation CEO and Founder Colleen Kisel acknowledged the importance of Jubilee Children Ministries donation at a critical time of year, "The Treasure Chest Foundation is especially grateful to the Jubilee Children Ministries for their enormous donation of toys and American Girl Dolls," said Ms. Kisel. "Their donation will help us continue to support brave young children as they endure painful procedures in their battle against cancer. We are truly blessed to have the support of the Jubilee Children Ministries." The POTCF is a unique organization whose services impact more than 14,800 young cancer patients in 63 cancer treatment centers in 21 states across the nation and in the District of Columbia. Nowhere else in the nation does such a program exist. Colleen Kisel founded the organization in 1996 after her then seven-year-old son Martin had been diagnosed with leukemia in 1993. Ms. Kisel discovered that giving her son a toy after each procedure provided a calming distraction from his pain, noting that when children are diagnosed with cancer their world soon becomes filled with doctors, nurses, chemotherapy drugs, surgeries and seemingly endless painful procedures. Martin celebrated his 28th anniversary of remission from the disease in March of this year.
