THPRD Seeks Public Input On New Beaverton Sport Court

BEAVERTON, OR —The Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District (THPRD) has announced it will be installing a new multi-use sport court at Beaverton's Mountain View Champions Park, and the organization is seeking community input on the project. The court is due to be completed in October 2023. At 6 p.m. Thursday, THPRD is hosting a virtual community meeting where community members can offer their thoughts about the markings they would like to see on the court, which will be located just south of the existing community gardens along SW 170th Avenue. The meeting will be live on Zoom —Meeting ID: 160 138 1878 — and available over the phone ( 1-669-254-5252). Community members also can view the meeting later on the district's YouTube channel. The YouTube recording will include Spanish translation. Community members also can offer their input via a short online survey, which is available in English or Spanish. The survey must be completed by December 5. According to the THPRD, the new sport court will be uniquely designed to be fully accessible to people experiencing disabilities. Among the features on the court will be: Wide access paved pathways with soft-angle turns, soft slopes, no steps and the most direct and shortest routes to and from the sport court.Wide entrance gates into the sport court with direct alignment into the parking lot. Also, visually contrasting striping on the sport court surface.Spectator areas for viewing the sport court with spaces for mobility devices, including wheelchairs.Additional parking, including ADA parking with curb-less transition to paved pathways and directional signage. The sport court is the final project to be completed and funded by the 2008 bond measure, according to the THPRD. Park neighbors also can expect to receive notices in the mail about any upcoming community meetings, the THPRD said.
