MAPLE GROVE, MN — A new Amazon sortation center that opened last month in Maple Grove is expected to bring faster service to the Twin Cities region — and hundreds of new jobs. Amazon's new 350,000-square-foot facility at 10440 89th Ave. received its first shipment on Oct. 27 and has been ramping up its operations over the past few weeks, according to a news release. Crimson Football Team Beats Woodbury For Spot In State Semifinals The company is looking to hire hundreds of area residents for full-time, part-time and "flex" positions, and it's offering $3,000 signing bonuses for new employees. Wages start at $18 per hour, the release states. The Maple Grove sortation center has about 200 employees but is big enough to employ 1,000 people, CCX Media reports. Maple Grove Mayor Mark Steffenson said the facility will also increase the city's tax base and thanked Amazon for its "continued investment in the community." "The ongoing commitment from our businesses supports Maple Grove's place as a premier destination to live and work." Tens of thousands of packages are processed at the Maple Grove facility each day, a number that will grow considerably as Christmas nears, CCX Media reports.
