Ham Radio Training & Testing Please, review the required course training materials prior to the start of the class. Training Materials (Right click and open the link in a new tab) This course is being held over two Saturdays. To complete this course and take the exam, attendance is required for both days. Dates: January 16 & January 23 Times: 8:00a to 4:00p on January 16 8:00a to about 2:00p on January 23 (Testing begins immediately after the course) Becoming a licensed amateur radio operator opens a large availability of communications capabilities. For CERT, becoming a licensed amateur radio operator enables a CERT volunteers to work in the command center and (potentially) the EOC during times of need. This course focuses on key pieces and commonly applied knowledge. It does require some work on the part of the participant to study ahead of the class as key components will be touched upon. The first day (January 16) is focused on academic instruction. On the second day (January 23) testing will begin after the completion of the class. Results from testing are given the same day. Activation of the license will be within a few business days after testing. There are several benefits of being a licensed HAM operator. We have weekly CERT Net Check-ins on Monday that you will be able to participate in after receiving your license. We have several events where we use radios to communicate.
