HUNTERSVILLE, NC — Brian, a five-year-old Huntersville resident, knew exactly what to do when he saw a letter from the Huntersville Fire Department asking for donations.
He emptied his piggy bank. "I hope this buys you a new fire truck," he wrote on a letter to the firefighters complete with a drawing of a firetruck and two firefighters. He included his $3 donation with the drawing.
Luke, his 3-year-old brother, wanted to pitch in too. He took $1.25 from his own piggy bank and put it toward the cause, plus he added a picture of a sneaky snake.
Huntersville Fire sends out an annual donation letter in the mail and donations are used for firefighter gear needs. The combination fire department serves more than 55,000 Huntersville residents and is made up of several paid employees and then supplemented with volunteers.
They receive funding from the Town of Huntersville as well as the county through a fire tax, but do not receive any money from the Charlotte Firefighters Association. If you'd like to donate, you can mail donations to Huntersville Fire Department, PO Box 471, Huntersville, NC 28070.
