Press release from the Greensboro Science Center: August 9, 2021 Bring in your old cell phones, iPods, iPads, MP3 players and other small electronic devices (as well as their chargers) to help save gorillas! We will be collecting devices until World Gorilla Day on September 24th. Coltan, a mineral found in phones and other small electronics, is mined from areas where endangered gorillas live. The recycling of old cell phones, smartphones, tablets, Apple/Android watches, GPS, MP3 players, e-readers, digital cameras, handheld gaming systems and any accessories that come with these devices helps reduce the demand for coltan and protects gorilla habitat in Africa. Gorillas are on the line, but by recycling these devices, you are joining us to answer the call and help to save gorillas in the wild! Protecting gorilla habitat can also protect other endangered African species, like okapi! Devices can be dropped in the collection box located in our entrance vestibule.
