CHARLOTTE, NC — North Carolina has a way for citizens to report robocalls and robotexts, the latter becoming more common as legislators crack down on calls. The North Carolina Department of Justice has a form on their website allowing the person receiving the calls or texts to get that information into the hands of their team to address it. When many people submit numbers of the culprits, it helps identify patterns, according to NCDOJ. They also say they'll share that information with telecom companies which can develop tools to help block them. Simply go to NCDOJ.gov/report-robocalls and fill out their form. You'll need the number the call or text came from. There's also a new tool you can try to use that sends those texts to the FCC. Forward the text to S-P-A-M, or 7726. The NCDOJ advises never to click on what appears to be a spam text because there have been numerous reports of attempted phishing, or looking for your private data. They can even appear like they're from a bank or another legitimate service. It's best to call your bank or service provider to verify any alarming messages and never click on that link, per investigators.
