MARIETTA, GA — A 57-year-old man was trying to cross Cobb Parkway late Monday night on foot when he was hit by a car and killed, Marietta police said.
Around 8 p.m. Monday, the man was standing in the center turn lane in front of the Regency Inn and Suites on Cobb Parkway South when the driver of a Toyota Camry struck him, according to a Marietta Police Department news release. The Camry also hit another car before coming to a stop.
The driver of the Camry, 43-year-old Kevin Alston of Marietta, failed to render aid and fled the scene on foot before police arrived, police said. The pedestrian, whose name will not be released until next of kin are notified, was pronounced dead on the scene.
MPD canine officer Jacquo tracked Alston onto the Marietta campus of Kennesaw State University, where he was eventually found with help from KSU campus police, authorities said.
The crash remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact MPD at 770-794-5384.
