DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers have reportedly signed former Boston Red Sox left-handed starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The deal is reportedly worth between $77 and $80 million over a five years. Eduardo Rodriguez's deal, once finalized, will pay him $77 million over five years, sources tell ESPN. Detroit gets the youngest starter on the market to add to its young-and-talented rotation. Rodriguez, 28, has pitched his entire career so far with the Boston Red Sox. He missed the entire 2020 season due to complications from COVID-19, including a bout with myocarditis. Rodriguez pitched well in his return last season, despited posting a career-hit ERA of 4.74. He set careers highs in strikeout rate (27.4 percent) and strikeouts per nine innings (10.6). He also posted a career-low walk rate and a career-low FIP of 3.32. The Tigers also recently traded for veteran catcher Tucker Barnhart to help manage the starting pitching staff.
