MI Leads Country In New COVID-19 Cases

MICHIGAN — The State of Michigan reported 50,311 new COVID-19 cases in the past seven days, which led the nation, according to CDC data. The seven day case rate shows 503.8 new cases per 100,000 residents, which is the highest number of any state, according to CDC data. Second place was Minnesota, which reported 490.2 new cases per 100,000 residents, according to CDC data. Despite the state reaching a 70% vaccination mark for residents 16 and older, hospitalizations have increased nearly 20% for two straight weeks and hit a seven month high Monday with more 3,000 patients sick from the virus, according to state health officials. Michigan last led the nation in new cases per 100,000 residents in the spring, during a surge that peaked in April.
