DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI — Bill Bazzi defeated Denise Malinowski-Maxwell for Dearborn Heights mayor, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Bazzi is the city's first Muslim elected to office.
Bazzi received 73% of the vote for a partial term that ends this year and 72% for a full four-year term that follows.
Bazzi was appointed mayor of the city January, following the death of former Dearborn Heights Mayor Dan Paletko.
Bazzi is also one of three Arab-Americans that was elected to office Tuesday. Amer Ghalib was elected mayor in Hamtramck and Abdullah Hammoud was elected in Dearborn.
