Description

My philosophy is "Everything I ever needed to know about business I learned on the sports field." From Behind The Scoreboard, I feature the sports stories that tell us much more than simply who won or lost. These personal and inspiring experiences of grade school, high school, college, other amateur and even pro athletes allow all of us to reflect a little more on what is important in life. ~ James C. Metzger, Chairman and CEO, The Whitmore Agency _______ Championing Doc Adams For The Baseball Hall Of Fame The baseball offseason is just a few weeks old but there’s plenty of Hot Stove talk to keep fans occupied. One topic is the upcoming Hall of Fame voting and speculation about who might enter the hallowed hall from the bygone days. Could Doc Adams finally receive a plaque? He was a player back in the mid-1800s. But his significant contribution to the game was as a builder. Credit him with the distance between bases, the number of players on the field and the creation of the shortstop position. His great-granddaughter, Marjorie Adams (photo), championed Doc for years. She is gone now and the hope is that others will continue to rally around good old Doc until he receives proper recognition in Cooperstown. Learn more about Doc Adams in my blog.
