The Hospitality Employment Training Program (HETP), is provided through the Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC). HETP assists adults 18 years and older who are most marginalized and face significant barriers to successful permanent employment, with skills training and support to gain meaningful employment. This is done by providing wrap around service, to participants that aide in the elimination of these barriers. Services include, childcare assistance, transportation assistance, professional attire, continuing education assistance (work related), and one-on-one case management. HETP welcomes participants into eight weeks of in-class training, Monday - Thursday from 10am-2pm. Training includes, résumé writing, cover letter writing, customer service skills, interview skills, public speaking, financial literacy, professional dress, de-escalation skills, cultural competency, mock interviews, specialized hospitality industry classes, and much more. After completion of in-class training, HETP will assist participants in finding a paid internship with an employer partner in their field of interest. This opportunity will allow the participant to showcase all skills gained, and open opportunities for permanent employment.
