We have made great strides in getting the trash out of the Clear Fork of Trinity. The Clear Fork is but one section of the Trinity between here and Trinity Bay near Galveston. We don't work by picking up the trash but by cajoling the responsible parties, namely TRWD, FW Parks and Rec and FTW Codes and Compliance to fulfill their obligations. We brought pressure to bear and they have cleaned up the parts of the river they are responsible for. Once off! The problem is there is no one entity responsible for the trash in the Trinity. For instance the trash is a FTW Codes and Compliance responsibly or depending on where, FTW Parks and Rec, sometimes FTW T/PW and least of all TRWD. The aforementioned entities will probably not clean up the river without another PR campaign. And they will certainly ignore the tributaries, which in many cases have no name, but are a conduit for trash to the watershed. We have brought awareness to the issue at City Hall, TRWD, and the neighborhoods. They are not resistant, but they will not lead on this problem. What is needed is folks to build out the Trash Free Trinity organization and move the agenda forward.
