Come celebrate the Holidays with us and #shopsmall. This community wide event is for the whole family to enjoy! It’s finally here! Experience the warmth and joy of the holiday season at the Savage Mill! This year we have something exciting planned for visitors this year. Savage Mill, Carroll Baldwin Hall, and the Savage Community Association are proud to present “Savage Yuletide Festival.” What is the Savage Yuletide Festival? Every Saturday and Sunday between November 27- December 19th we will have vendors inside the Mill selling holiday goods, wreath making, cider, and more! Kids and kids at heart will be able to meet Santa outside our doors with a beautiful backdrop of the Mill. We will have a history display of Santa Heim as well as walking tours with Carroll Baldwin Hall. There is so much more to this month long festival! Continue below for more information! SHOP SMALL WITH SAVAGE MILL Kicking off our Savage Yuletide festival is #SmallBusinessSaturday! At 10am on Saturday, November 27, Howard County Executive, Calvin Ball will be opening the festivities with his presence with the help of HoCo Tourism. Throughout the festival, we encourage people to shop small with our unique collection of businesses as well as new vendors that will be here. Below is a list of vendors you can shop from on top of our small business that are at the Mill. MEET SANTA Kids will be able to meet Santa from 12-4 every Saturday and Sunday at our Main Entrance in the Big Lot. Santa will be outside right next to our giant tree! Santa will be masked for the kids and parents safety. Masks are not required for photos but are recommended. BRIDGE LIGHTING Come in person, or watch on our Facebook Live! This year we will have carolers, a violinist, and we’ll have 2 special guests! One will be Howard County Executive, Calvin Ball! MUSIC Sunday, November 28, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm Acoustic Music Jam Local musicians Chuck Gamber, Tom O’Farrell, and others perform century-old folk music interspersed with holiday tunes. Made possible with the support of Carroll Baldwin Hall, Savage’s community center, in celebration of its centennial. Historic Building | Carroll Baldwin Hall | United States SANTA HEIM HISTORY WALKING TOUR Santa Heim, Merrieland: Savage’s Year-Round Christmas Village Sundays, November 28 and December 19, 12 - 1:30 pm Join us for this walking tour highlighting the Santa Heim years of Savage Mill and the surrounding community. From 1948-1951, the former cotton mill and the surrounding town were transformed by Harry Heim, a Baltimore businessman, into a year-round Christmas village. Highlights of the tour will include the Bollman Truss Bridge, a railroad spur that brought tens of thousands of people to the town; Carroll Baldwin Hall, the town community center turned toy store; houses and businesses in town that played a role; and the over-the-top entertainment inside the Mill’s New Weave building. The tour will end at a display of authentic Santa Heim Christmas ornaments owned by a Savage resident and Savage Historical Society member who will share what she has learned about the years when Santa Heim produced ⅓ of the country’s hand-blown ornaments. THEATER A Christmas Carol December 2 - 12 Carroll Baldwin Hall, 9035 Baltimore St. Pasadena Theatre Company presents six performances of this beloved favorite at Carroll Baldwin Hall, Savage’s community center, this holiday season. The performances are part of a year-long celebration of Baldwin Hall's centennial, which includes reviving the stage and returning it to its original use. https://www.facebook.com/events/296311892053282 and/or OPENING (ptcshows.com) CAROLERS Pasadena Theatre Company Sings Holiday Favorites Saturday, December 4, 4 - 5 pm Children and adults from the cast of this year’s performances of A Christmas Carol will sing Christmas favorites. TREE LIGHTING Savage Community Association's Holiday Celebration Saturday, December 4, 5:30 pm Baldwin Common The SCA's Holiday Celebration includes the annual Tree Lighting on Baldwin Common by Santa; a Food Drive to support our local food pantry; and vocal and musical entertainment provided by local school, church, and scout groups. SANTA HEIM HISTORY DISPLAY Santa Heim, Merrieland November 27 - December 19 Historic photographs, Christmas ornaments, and other souvenirs from the years 1948-1951, when the Mill and the neighboring town of Savage were transformed into Santa Heim, a year-round Christmas village, and the Mill produced a third of all handblown Christmas ornaments sold in the U.S. HOLIDAY MARKET MERCHANTS Santa Heim Holiday Market Saturdays and Sundays, November 27 - December 19 A variety of artisans will be set up throughout the Mill on Saturdays and Sundays offering holiday gift items including unique jewelry, pottery, candles, body products, handbags, handbound journals, crocheted and embroidered items, home decor items, live wreaths, works of art. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It is located in the Savage Mill Historic District. Buildings in the complex date from 1822 to 1916.
