This family-friendly event includes activities for the kids, spectacular decorations in each room, and a visit from Santa and a reindeer! Governor Kim and Kevin Reynolds invite you to attend Christmas at Terrace Hill! This family-friendly event will be held on Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Guests will enjoy: Photos with Santa Claus and a ReindeerActivities for ChildrenChristmas Cookies and Other Sweet TreatsCarolersGingerbread Terrace Hill DisplaySpectacular Christmas Decorations in Every Room!Special this year, Governor Reynolds will be reading a newly written story, No Company for Christmas. The story features Terrace Hill and a host of lovable characters. It was written by Terrace Hill docent and local children’s author, Susan Maupin Schmid, with projected illustrations created by local artist, Tara Gartin. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Terrace Hill Partnership, the non-profit organization that supports necessary conservation and restoration projects at Terrace Hill. Contact the Terrace Hill office: 515-281-7205 Terrace Hill was designed by famous Chicago architect, William Boyington. Built in 1869 by Iowa's first millionaire, Benjamin F. Allen, the residence has been restored to its original state of Victorian grandeur. Given to the state in 1971, Terrace Hill is the Iowa Governor's Residence and a National Historic Landmark. Terrace Hill has been named one of the finest examples of French Second Empire architecture west of the Hudson River. Terrace Hill is open for tours March through December and is closed on holidays. Guided Tours are given by reservation only and must be made 48 hours in advance. Please call 515-242-5841 to make a reservation.
