Description

This class is intended for nurses who will be caring for newborns. • The learner will be able to complete a systematic neurologic assessment and utilize findings and critical thinking Skills to develop an evidence based plan of care to address the individual newborn’s neurologic assessment findings and status. • Learners will incorporate knowledge, general principles, and critical thinking skills enabling them to: • Describe the basic components of fetal nervous system development. • Describe the basic physiology of the neurologic system. • Describe the components of a thorough neuro assessment. • Describe pathophysiology/treatment options of neurologic variations: neural tube defects, neurologic disorders, birth injuries, intracranial hemorrhages, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, and meningitis
