Police Holding Sobriety Checkpoint In Bristol County This Weekend

BRISTOL COUNTY, MA — Massachusetts State Police will implement a "sobriety checkpoint" in Bristol County this weekend, they announced on Monday. From Saturday, Nov. 20 to Sunday, Nov. 21, the checkpoint will be operated on a county Public Way — a street or highway open to the public and controlled and maintained by the government — said Colonel Christopher S. Mason, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police. "It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety," officials said in a news release. Sobriety checkpoints are used to help the public understand the importance of finding — and removing from roadways — motorists operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, officials said. The checkpoint will be conducted using a grant from the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
