Guardrail Impales Loudon Man's Car During Everett Turnpike Crash

MERRIMACK, NH — A man from Loudon was injured after crashing into a guardrail on the Everett Turnpike in Merrimack on Sunday. Around 10 p.m., New Hampshire State Police along with Merrimack fire and rescue teams and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation were sent to the area of Mile Marker 8.8 on the highway for reports of a multi-vehicle crash. When they arrived, they found a 2012 Chrysler 300 impaled with about eight feet of railing from the guardrail. The driver, Jonathan Gouveia, 43, of Loudon, only suffered minor injuries during the crash. "(Gouveia) was traveling northbound and reportedly lost control of his vehicle when another unknown vehicle moved into his lane of travel," Lt. Bryan Trask of Troop B said. "Gouveia lost control of his vehicle and collided with the guardrail on the right side of the road which then sent him across the roadway into the center median where his vehicle then struck the monorail dividing the northbound and southbound lanes." A section monorail, about 12 feet in length, was detached and projected across the southbound lanes, Trask said. Five more vehicles then struck that section of the monorail, damaging those vehicles. "None of the other motorists involved in this event reported injuries," he said. The left lanes of both sides of the turnpike were closed for about two and a half hours as the department of transportation made repairs to the guardrail.
