Greetings! Here are some highlights of interest to Merrimack from the State House: - Eliminating the Interest and Dividends Tax by 2027: The budget (HB 2) passed this year was signed into law by the Governor and includes the phasing out of the "Interest and Dividends Tax" with its elimination by 2027. Here is the schedule: "77:1 Rate. I. The annual tax upon incomes shall be levied at the rate of 5 percent for all taxable periods ending before December 31, 2023. II. The annual tax upon incomes shall be levied at the rate of 4 percent for all taxable periods ending on or after December 31, 2023. III. The annual tax upon incomes shall be levied at the rate of 3 percent for all taxable periods ending on or after December 31, 2024. IV. The annual tax upon incomes shall be levied at the rate of 2 percent for all taxable periods ending on or after December 31, 2025. V. The annual tax upon incomes shall be levied at the rate of 1 percent for all taxable periods ending on or after December 31, 2026." See HB 2 (2021) sections 91:103-104 here: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/bill_Status/billinfo.aspx?id=1080&inflect=2 - Redistricting: Every ten years based on census numbers, the state legislature determines geographic districts for Congressmen, State Senators, County Commissioners, Executive Councilors and State Representatives. Special Committees on Redistricting are formed in the House and Senate to take public input and determine district boundaries. As with other bills, the process for redistricting must proceed through the full House and Senate to the Governor.
