Description
This one day presentation will provide participants with the fundamentals for providing close protection operations. Course Information The ASIS International Middle Tennessee Chapter (052) and Michael Mann Security Services will provide this one-day executive protection course. Course content includes the use of learning modules that will cover the fundamental elements for providing close protection operations for at-risk personnel. Course objectives will be achieved through the use of classroom lecture, tabletop exercises, case studies and drills. Suggested Audience This course is designed for security practitioners who are currently working in executive protection, corporate security managers, security ministries that provide close protection for faith leaders and those interested in pursuing a career in protective services. Course Modules Executive Protection: An Introduction This module will introduce participants to the essential elements of close protection. Topics include the history of modern close protection operations, developing protection objectives, working with clients, the art of planning and prevention, determining resources and selecting personnel. Licensing Requirements There are few requirements or standards in the U.S. for security practitioners who wish to provide close protection services. This module will cover the basics for licensing, selecting a training program, certification and the use of contract security services. Threat Characterization: Understanding the Adversary Safeguarding the client is the primary objective for the close protection agent. This module will provide participants with an understanding of potential adversaries to include motivations, capabilities, tactics and potential actions. Use of Force: Guidelines for the Protective Agent This module will provide participants with the basic principles for the use of force for private security personnel, the nature of both civil and criminal liability, and suggestions regarding insurance and pre-paid legal plans. Surveillance Detection Providing effective protection includes identifying potential adversaries and their attack methodology early. This module will cover the fundamentals of providing a surveillance detection program for the client. Conducting the Threat Assessment This module will teach participants a process for conducting actual threat assessments. The instructor will use case studies and an effective threat assessment methodology to illustrate the fundamentals for this process. Developing an Executive Protection Program This module will provide participants with a basic process for developing and implementing a protective services program. Inclusive Course fee does include a continental breakfast, lunch and beverages. All participants will also have a chance to win prizes to include range passes, equipment, and executive protection related publications from ASIS. Certificates of Completion Participants requesting certificates of completion will be required to successfully complete a comprehensive examination administered through an on-line testing process. Certificates of completion can be used to gain Continuing Professional Education (CPE) activities that can be applied toward ASIS recertification. Presenter Michael Mann, CPP®, PSP®, CDEP has 30+ years’ experience in physical security, law enforcement, executive protection and corporate security. Michael’s experience in close protection began during his service with the United States Marine Corps Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST), a dedicated security and antiterrorism unit of the Marine Corps. Michael’s additional close protection experience includes serving on the mayor’s security detail while employed as a police officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department, and while employed as the manager of executive protection for a large risk management firm. Michael is certified in dignitary and executive protection and he has attended numerous executive protection training courses provided by R.L. Oatman and Associates, Inc.; the Executive Protection Institute (EPI); Executive Security International (ESI); Vehicle Dynamics Institute (VDI); and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Office of Firearms and Tactical Programs: Protective Security Operations Training Program (PSOTP). Michael has Master of Science (MS) Degree in Security and Risk Management; a Certificate in Terrorism Studies from the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence, University of St. Andrews and he studied terrorism at Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel. Michael is also a 32- year student, practitioner and teacher of modern pistolcraft and self- defense. Michael currently serves as the Chapter Chair for the ASIS Middle Tennessee Chapter, and he is the Director, Physical Security for Smile Direct Club.
