LA GRANGE, IL — La Grange saw 23 new coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department.
As of Sunday, the village had 1,951 cases since the pandemic's beginning.
Until two weeks ago, the health department had been incorrectly lumping in the coronavirus cases from unincorporated La Grange Highlands into La Grange's number.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the local number of recorded coronavirus-related deaths in La Grange stayed the same in the last week, at 36. The latest deaths were Sept. 17, Sept. 14, May 24, May 22, May 14 and Feb. 13. All the local deaths have been those who were over 50, according to the medical examiner.

The figure compares to 97 in Darien, 110 in Hinsdale and DuPage County, 113 in Elmhurst and La Grange Park, 119 in Clarendon Hills, 122 in Western Springs and suburban Cook County, and 133 in Burr Ridge.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,735,586, a 1.3 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 26,077.
Nationally, 46.9 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 1.1 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 759,552 people have died from the virus in the United States.
