Happy Tuesday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening today in town. First, today's weather: Mostly sunny and warm. High: 78 Low: 58. Here are the top stories in Jackson today: Free COVID-19 vaccinations will be available to students, faculty, staff, and community members at Jackson State University today. The vaccines will be distributed from noon to 4 p.m. at One University Place, Suite 6. The shots are paid for by the Mississippi State Department of Health. (WJTV) The Hinds County Board of Supervisors narrowly rejected a plan to use $1 million to set up a temporary holding facility in Jackson. President Credell Calhoun said the board was asked to come up with a plan for a jail, but said it needs to get permission from the U.S. Department of Justice. Hinds County Interim Sheriff Marshand Crisler stressed that building a misdemeanor jail would be a commitment to residents. (Clarion Ledger) The EPA visited Jackson and got a close look at the increasing clean water issues the city has seen over the past year. (WLBT) The Mississippi Office of Highway Safety awarded $361K to the JSU Metro Jackson Community Prevention Coalition for impaired driving prevention. (WJTV) Ward 1 Jackson City Councilman Ashby Foote expressed concerns about the lack of police officers in Jackson after two veteran detectives resign.
