Fremont Police Officer Recovering At Home Following Collision

FREMONT, CA — A Fremont police officer's injuries were downgraded from "major to moderate" following a Saturday collision with another vehicle while on duty, officials said on Sunday. After receiving treatment, the officer was released from the hospital to recover at home, the Fremont Police Department said on social media. "We appreciate all of the well wishes received for our officer and the passenger of the second car," police wrote on Twitter. The officer was rushed to a local hospital after being involved in a "major injury collision" Around 6:41 p.m. on Saturday, police said. Officers were assisting the Alameda County Sheriff's Office with a "prowler" call on Niles Canyon Road when the officer became involved in a crash with another vehicle traveling on the road just west of Palomares Road, according to the Fremont Police Department. The officer was transported to a trauma center with non-life threatening injures, police said. A passenger from the second vehicle was also taken to the hospital with complaint of pain. Niles Canyon Road remained closed to traffic between Mission Boulevard and Sunol for several hours on Saturday night. No other information was immediately available.
