Gang Affiliation Charges Land Ex-Cop In Jail For Boyfriend

ATLANTA — A former City of South Fulton Police officer is facing police accusations that she meddled with evidence in a drug investigation against her boyfriend, police say. Last month, Aliyah Jackson was arrested by Atlanta Police and charged with criminal attempt to commit a felony and unlawful association or participation by a police officer with a criminal street gang. Authorities said Jackson, 27, was accused of trying to tamper with evidence and violating her oath of office in the case of Kenneth Xavier Copeland. On Oct. 27, officers with a multi-agency drug task force in Metro Atlanta targeting gang members selling drugs were called when Copeland, a felon, was arrested when a gun was found in the car he was driving during a traffic stop. Although his license was suspended, he was driving Jackson's car, police said. In addition to driving on a suspended license and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Copeland was also charged with reckless driving, possession of a vehicle with an altered VIN, misdemeanor willful obstruction of law enforcement, participation in criminal street gang activity, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. He remains in the Fulton County Jail. Jackson was arrested two days later. In a statement, South Fulton Police Chief Keith Meadows said she was placed on administrative leave but later resigned. She had been with the department since 2017. She was booked into the Fulton County Jail and released on a $10,000 bond on Oct. 30, according to court records. "We hold our officers strictly accountable for upholding the laws of our city as well as their oaths of office," Meadows said.
