This class is intended for nurses caring for mothers and newborns affected by opioid use disorder.
Objectives
• Discuss the incidence and prevalence of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS).
• Describe the basic components of fetal nervous system development.
• Describe the neurologic effects of maternal drug use on the fetus and newborn.
• Assess and recognize the clinical manifestations of NAS in the newborn.
• Discuss non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment strategies for newborns diagnosed with NAS.
• Describe nursing interventions for care of the infant diagnosed with NAS.
Participants will be required to have audio and visual capabilities on the entire length of the presentation.
