Learn from a world-renowned Flamenco artist Flamenco dancer Joaquín Grilo Mateos, found worldwide acclaim touring with Paco De Lucia where the legendary guitarist showcased his technical and charismatic artistry. He was also featured in the Carlos Saura film, “Flamenco” and has performed with many outstanding artists including, Miguel Poveda, Dorantes, Vicente Amigo and many others. He is a director and choreographer from Jerez de la Frontera, where he continues to defy conventional forms of flamenco dance, always pushing the envelope and creating memorable and provocative performances such as “La Calle De mis Sueños” (The street of my dreams.) Joaquín Grilo will be performing in Flamenco! Fiesta de la Bulería Jerez (directed by Maria Bermudez) at the LA Phil on November 27. ¡FLAMENCO! Santa Barbara is a non-profit organization devoted to supporting Flamenco dance and music in our culturally rich region through student scholarships, workshops and performance opportunities. Our work includes: - Funding live flamenco musicians during Old Spanish Days Fiesta community events and throughout the year to allow performers and spectators to experience Flamenco in its truest form: accompanied by live Spanish guitar (toque), song (cante) and hand-clapping (palmas). - Provides partial tuition scholarships to talented, young Santa Barbara County dancers in need. - Supports workshops lead by master Flamenco artists, often from Spain. - Sponsors the dance company, ¡FLAMENCO! Santa Barbara, which performs year-round at events, private gatherings, senior homes, hospitals and schools. -  Provides young people with an outlet for creativity, expression and physical activity, and instills a sense of community, culture, history, respect, poise and confidence. We are supported by the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation, Schlinger Foundation, Towbes Foundation and many private donors and foundations who see the value in keeping aspiring young dancers and musicians focused on their passion.
