Description

1.5 mile guided hike to the ruins of Durham's first water pumping station, alongside beautiful river scenery. Stroll through history on this hike featuring Durham’s first public drinking water source. Building foundations and dams still surface in the woods, river, and creek. We may see signs of spring, including foliage of early wildflowers. Portions of the hike will be off-trail, some sections may be steep, muddy, or on rough terrain. A walking stick is highly recommended, and sturdy shoes are a must. Time permitting, we will hike the remainder of the 1.5 mile loop. Directions: Meet at the Pump Station Trail head, at the bridge over Nancy Rhodes Creek, on Rivermont Drive in Durham. Rivermont runs between Cole Mill and Valley Springs. The address is 4023 Rivermont Road, Durham, NC 27712. Carpooling recommended due to a small parking area.
