Hike the Eno River backcountry to explore a beautiful abandoned stone quarry.
Back Country with Ranger Dave
Eno River State Park, Fews Ford Access
2:00 pm-5:00pm Go off trail with retired ranger Dave Cook to explore the Bacon Quarry. This is the northern most region of Eno River State Park. Within the hardwood forest there is an old rock quarry, left behind from building Orange County Roads. It is a scenic, historical, and ecologically significant spot. We will get there with a combination of hiking trails and hiking through the forest. A hiking staff is strongly recommended for wandering the rocks in the quarry. This 5.8 mile hike includes a nearly steady 1 mile uphill and other rolling hills. 10 person limit and masks will be required where we cannot properly distance. $3 for Association members and children, $5 for everyone else.
Directions: Meet at the Buckquarter Creek Trail head, 2nd right as you enter the park. The address is 6101 Cole Mill Rd, Durham, NC 27705
