STILLWATER, MN — The Stillwater girls soccer team won its first state championship in more than 20 years by defeating Centennial 1-0 on Saturday at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Junior forward Nell Smith scored the game-winning goal in the 11th minute to give Stillwater the Class 3A crown — its third-ever state title and its first since 1998, when it won the Class 2A championship.

The Ponies won the Class 2A state title in 1994 and 1998, while finishing as runner-up in 1997 and 2001, according to the Minnesota State High School League.

Hadley and Smith were named in the MSHSL's All-Tournament Team, alongside midfielder Catherine Fredkove and forward Marissa Bonilla, who are both seniors.
Days after lifting the Class 3A state trophy, Fredkove signed a letter of intent to play women's soccer at the University of St. Thomas.
