Fremont Police Officer Injured In Crash; Road Remains Closed

FREMONT, CA — A Fremont police officer was rushed to a local hospital after being involved in a "major injury collision" on Saturday night, officials said. Around 6:41 p.m., Fremont police officers were assisting the Alameda County Sheriff's Office with a "prowler" call on Niles Canyon Road when an officer became involved in a collision with another vehicle traveling on the road just west of Palomares Road, according to the Fremont Police Department. The officer was taken to a trauma center with non-life threatening injures, police said. A passenger from the second vehicle was also taken to the hospital with complaint of pain. Niles Canyon Road remained closed to traffic between Mission Boulevard and Sunol as of 9:19 p.m., police said. Newark Police Department traffic officers have taken over the investigation of the collision as part of the Tai-City Accident Investigation Team, officers said. No other information was immediately available.
