There's snow on the horizon (because you know it's Cleveland), let's play recess games and Gellyball while it's still warm! Come play with Recess Cleveland, Trust for Public Land, Famicos Foundation, and University Circle Incorporated for free family-friendly play days with friends. We will start off the day with one hour of open play and games with community recess before we begin a 2-mile hiking route through Rockefeller park. The hike will detail existing park pathways and future, proposed nature trails along the Doan Brook with our partners. You will receive a Park Field Guide which highlights attractions, history, and fun facts about Rockefeller Park. After the hike, we'll return to Sowinski Park for lunch and an additional hour of Recess games and contests. What is Gellyball? Imagine Paintball and Airsoft having a baby. GellyBall is an ultra low impact sport – suitable for kids age four and up. It uses GellyBall blasters – an easy-to-use blaster that doesn’t use much pressure to blast GellyBalls. GellyBall Blasters use a soft gel ball, much like Orbeez that your kids probably already play with! When blasted from the easy-to-use Blasters, the soft Gelly Balls bounce off kids leaving no stain, mess or sting. Unlike Nerf guns where the players have to constantly reload with ammo off the ground, a GellyBall Blaster holds 750 Orbeez without reloading! All players are required to wear protective eyewear or full faced masks when playing (that we will provide). It's soo much fun!!! What to expect? University Circle Inc will be there to distribute our new Rockefeller Park Field Guide which highlights attractions, history, and fun facts about Rockefeller Park. Recess Cleveland is a local nonprofit that builds healthy, active, and social communities using recess and organized sports. Recess is a great way to make new friends, and stay active! There will be people from all over the city, and it's a great way to get to know your community. Best of all, it's a free event! But what about COVID... Recess Cleveland has spent the past two years researching and practicing ways to get out a play safely during a pandemic. We've also partnered up with Neighbor Up and we will distribute FREE PPE during the event.
