TDOR is an annual observance on Nov. 20th which honors the memory of transgender people whose lives were lost due to transphobic violence.
This year's TDOR Omaha event features the fabulous River City Mixed Chorus under the conduction of Dr. Donald Cullen Freed, speakers Dr. Jay Irwin, Director of UNO's Women's & Gender Studies and Spencer K. Danner, Jr., NDP Vice Chair & former Director of Omaha HRR, RCGA's emotional candlelight ceremonies' reading of names, and a delicious Grab 'n Go Dessert Reception by RCGA's members! Given we're In the midst of an ever worsening national crisis, the trans community's record loss of at least 51 heroic Americans since last Nov. 20th, the theme of this year's Transgender Day of Remembrance is "An Evening of Love & Hope."
In recognition of TDOR being the culmination of Transgender Week of Awareness, River City Gender Alliance (RCGA) will be 'Lighting the Way' by bathing Omaha structures in lights in the trans community's traditional blue, pink and white colors! And if you're in the vicinity of Omaha's Memorial Park, be sure to have a watchful eye for RCGA's 'Lighting the Way' banners!
TDOR Omaha is the registered, trademarked subsidiary of RCGA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, who's now celebrating it's 36th anniversary since being founded in 1986!
