NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Accused in the shooting death of a 20-year-old, New Rochelle residents Tyquan Carcamo and Laquan Jones are being held without bail, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced Friday. Aaliyah Waiters was shot in the head Sept. 25 following a party in Mount Vernon . She died several days later at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx. Carcamo, 20, and Jones, 21, were both indicted by a Westchester County Grand Jury for murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies. Mount Vernon police arrested Carcamo and Jones Oct. 25. Waiters was shot and killed as she stood with a group outside 237 S. Third Ave. Mount Vernon detectives had recovered video footage that helped break the case with the help of the New Rochelle Police Department and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. Investigators from the three agencies reviewed hours of video to identify the suspects and establish a timeline of events leading up to the moment that the suspects fired a barrage of bullets in the direction of the victim, according to officials. The case is before Judge Robert Neary in Westchester County Court, and is being prosecuted by the Violent Criminal Enterprise Bureau. They face a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. The charges against the defendants are merely an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty, the DA's Office noted.
