Press release from the City of Reno: 11/12/2021 2:37 PM Reno City Councilmember Naomi Duerr and the Ward 2 Neighborhood Advisory Board (NAB) are hosting a neighborhood cleanup on Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Reno residents are invited to dispose of large trash and debris, tires, small appliances, green waste, and bicycles. Duerr is also using a portion of her council funds to offer residents an opportunity to dispose of household hazardous waste thanks to a partnership with HERO Environmental Services.  "It's important to know that not all items can be picked up during your regularly scheduled trash pickups," said Duerr. "Improper disposal of hazardous waste can result in pollution and dangers to human and animal health. I encourage residents to know what's considered to be hazardous waste, and take advantage of free cleanups like this one to help protect our environment and keep Reno healthy."  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers some leftover household products that can catch fire, react, or explode under certain circumstances, or that are corrosive or toxic as household hazardous waste. Given their hazardous nature, these products require special care when disposing of them. Household hazardous waste includes items such as: Fluorescent light bulbs (including CFLs) Fuels (gasoline, propane, diesel) Mercury Paints (oil-based or some anti-mildew latex) Pesticides Pool chlorine and acid Wood stains or varnishes Corrosive cleaner   A representative from HERO Environmental Services will be onsite during the cleanup to help determine eligible items.  Other items to be accepted during Saturday's cleanup include: Large trash and debris Tires Small appliances Grass clippings Tree and hedge trimmings Bicycles   Items not accepted: Refrigerators or microwaves Electronics (such as televisions and computers) This press release was produced by the City of Reno.
