Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: Weather officials have issued freeze warnings and frost advisories for much of north and central Georgia this morning. According to the National Weather Service, a killing frost to end the growing season could be coming to much of the state this morning, and overnight lows will be cold into next week. The freeze warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. this morning, with temperatures expected to range from the upper 20s in far northeast Georgia to near 32 into middle Georgia. (Atlanta Patch)Ryan Buchanan, a veteran federal prosecutor with expertise in national security, has been nominated by President Joe Biden to be the U.S. attorney in the Atlanta-based Northern District of Georgia. Buchanan would succeed Byung "BJay" Pak. A former Republican legislator appointed by then-President Donald Trump, Pak stepped down in January instead of responding to demands from the White House to investigate false claims of widespread voter fraud. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)The family of a young father of three found murdered early Monday in the front yard of a vacant home in southwest Atlanta is asking for help in finding his killer. Atlanta police found Stephen Maffett, 25, dead outside a vacant home along Peeples Street near White Oak Avenue in southwest Atlanta's Oakland City neighborhood. There is a $2,000 reward in Maffett's case. Anyone with information about his death is asked to call Atlanta Police. (FOX 5 Atlanta)A van crashed into an apartment building in southwest Atlanta Friday night, slamming into someone's bedroom. Atlanta Fire Rescue crews responded to the damaged apartment building at 2612 Steele Avenue, as did Atlanta Police and emergency medical services. Authorities have yet to say if there were any injuries. (11Alive.com WXIA)DeMarcus Brinkley, suspected in the August shooting death of an Atlanta bartender, has been indicted on nine counts, including charges of malice murder, kidnapping and attempted rape. Mariam Abdulrab, 27, was found shot to death on Aug. 13 on Lakewood Avenue, hours after her boyfriend reported that she had been kidnapped at gunpoint outside his home in Chosewood Park. Brinkley, 27, who had served seven years in prison on child molestation charges, had been released less than a year before Abdulrab's kidnapping and murder.
