wanting a small sturdy dog under 40 pounds

Looking for a dog to be my buddy. Needs to be okay in apartments with two cats. Sturdy and short haired, and not yappy snappy or growly. No pitties, unfortunately they're not allowed i my complex(tho i do love them). I have beloved pet parrots too so a low prey drive is a must. Bulldogs, frenchies, bostons ect are especially welcome. No puppies, looking for ADULT dogs. No chihuahuas.
