Description
Hello - Right now our RSVP list is full for this event, but please register on the Waitlist to be notified if a spot opens up! Thank you! Women in Sustainability is taking their holiday to the Jamaican beaches this year on December 7 from 5:30pm - 8:00pm! Well, at least to Wah Gwaan Brewing where we can feel like we're in Jamaica! Our holiday party this year will take our 2021 worries away as we sip on Jamaica themed (and quite delicious) beers, enjoy authentic Jamaican food and dance the evening away with a reggae DJ! This event is free and open to all WIS community members that want to network and have fun! Dress in your beach theme shirts or your holiday party best! Just remember, it's still December in Colorado and we won't have sand, but may have snow! :) Wah Gwaan Brewing, located at 925 W 8th Ave, is owned by WIS member Harsha Maragh and her husband, Jesse. The brewery opened earlier this year and works to highlight sustainability at the center of the brewery's operations with the reuse of spent grain, water refill station and more! This event is limited to a capacity of 50 people so please RSVP if you are interested in joining the holiday festivities. If you RSVP and cannot attend, please be sure to cancel your reservation. The space is reserved for the WIS holiday party that evening so we can party together! As this will be indoors with a tight(er) capacity, we ask that you follow all COVID guidelines and highly recommend vaccinations. For anyone that feels more comfortable to wear a mask, please do so. So what you say, Mon? We will see you on December 7! Questions about the event, please contact Becky at [email protected]. Questions about the brewery, please contact Harsha at [email protected]. About Wah Gwaan Brewing Company: In Jamaican Patois (English dialect spoken in Jamaica), “wah gwaan” is commonly used as a greeting and means “how are you/what’s up.” They chose this phrase for the brewery because it reflects their friendly ambience and sense of community. They embody traditional Jamaican culture through distinctive, vibrant beer flavors and a welcoming atmosphere. They are committed to incorporating sustainable practices throughout the brewery and the local community. They plan to share authentic Jamaican culture through education, taproom events, and community outreach—and ultimately become a leader in sustainable brewing business practices while increasing diversity in the industry. COVID Guidelines: This event will be held indoors. WIS follows all CDC, State, City and venue protocols that are in place at the time of the event. We ask that all attendees follow the required guidelines for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals including wearing a mask if you are not vaccinated. We also encourage those to wear masks that feel more comfortable doing so. Regardless of your vaccination status, if you are not feeling well or have come in contact with someone with the COVID-19 virus, please do not attend this event. We appreciate your help in keeping our community and their family members safe during these unprecedented times. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved inside with plenty of space to social distance. In addition, WIS implements a COVID conscious name tag system for all attendees based on their level of comfort of contact (green = hugs & handshakes, yellow = handshakes & high fives, red = toe taps and air high fives). Women in Sustainability: Women in Sustainability's (WIS) mission is to change the status quo of the environmental movement to save the planet and create an equitable future through community engagement and action. With a focus on Community, Advocacy, Resources and Education, WIS provides a safe space for like-minded individuals that CARE for the planet to create purposeful connections and meaningful change that benefits the planet and all groups including, but not limited to, BIPOC, LGBTQIIA+, and persons with disabilities. We encourage our members to challenge the status quo and each other's views, however, we focus on this with civil discourse and positivity. WIS has a no tolerance policy and any individual that makes negative or ill-will comments towards other attendees will be immediately asked to leave the event. Please engage in conversation that "challenges ideas, not the person."
