Description
Press release from Prince William County Government: Wednesday, 10 Nov 2021 With United States Army Garrison, Fort Belvoir to our north, and Marine Corps Base Quantico to our south, Prince William County is a community that has the great fortune to be called home by many veterans and family members of those in the armed services. According to the most recent American Community Survey, an estimated 42,139 veterans live in our community, making up close to ten percent of all residents in Prince William County. Additionally, Prince William County Public Schools educates around 7,500 military-connected students annually. Military families play an active role in supporting the United States Armed Forces' strong and flexible nature. Every military family is unique and could consist of not just immediate family members but also partners, caregivers, extended family members, and friends. Regardless of who makes up a military family, they all share the same qualities of strength, flexibility, and resilience. This November marks the 25th anniversary of Veteran and Military Families Month, an annual month of celebration established in 1996 by the Armed Services YMCA. The Board of County Supervisors has voted to celebrate Veteran and Military Families Month this year, providing an opportunity for Prince William County to honor those who know what service entails firsthand and recognize the integral role military family members play in supporting the United States Armed Forces. We hope the community will join us as we utilize this month to express our continued gratitude towards veterans and the families of service members in our community.
