HARTFORD, CT —A Rhode Island man pleaded guilty Wednesday to stealing tires and rims from a Connecticut car dealership, according to a news release. Michael Farias, 56, pleaded guilty to one count of interstate transportation of stolen property, according to the acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut. As part of a plea agreement, Farias admitted that in 2016, he and others stole rims and tires from 4 Chevrolet Suburbans at a car dealership in Darien. Farias was arrested in November 2020. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, according to the news release from Acting U.S. Attorney Leonard C. Boyle's office. Court documents show Farias was indicted on charges that he and others stole tires and rims from dealerships in Rhode Island, New York, and Maine as well as Connecticut, and then sold them. The thefts were between May 2015 and Aug. 2018, court documents show. In Connecticut, police departments from Shelton, Milford, Waterbury, Stonington, Vernon, and Darien assisted the FBI in investigating the thefts, the news release said.
