Description

Kick off your week with a run/hike to the top of Cowles Mountain to celebrate the winter solstice. Meet at Big Rock Trailhead (less crowded) to Cowles Mountain Summit. Takes about 1 hr to hike about 45 min to run (5 miles out and back). Sunrise is 6:45AM. At one time the Kumeyaay had an observatory here to celebrate and observe the sunrise with all of its energy. This day is very sacred and important - it marks the shortest day of the year - the longest period of darkness when the earth has a maximum tilt of its axis away from the sun. So when the sun rises, its a remarkable event and it should not be missed! It represents regeneration and rebirth. 2020 was a very challenging year for all of us, as the days get shorter in winter, let's remind ourselves how far we have come and what we have to look forward to. Join us for socially-distanced coffee at Kaffee Meister after the run! ***BY REGISTERING FOR THIS EVENT YOU AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING RULES: 1) You understand that all social gatherings and activities are AT YOUR OWN RISK.
